Thermodynamical Properties and Quasi-localized Energy of the Stringy Dyonic Black Hole Solution

In this article, we calculate the heat flux passing through the horizon .TS∣rh. {\bf TS}|_{r_h} and the difference of energy between the Einstein and M{\o}ller prescription within the region M{\cal M}, in which is the region between outer horizon H+{\cal H}_+ and inner horizon H−{\cal H}_-, for the modified GHS solution, KLOPP solution and CLH solution. The formula . E_{\rm Einstein}|_{\cal M} = . E_{\rm M{\o}ller}|_{\cal M} - \sum_{\partial {\cal M}} {\bf TS}$ is obeyed for the mGHS solution and the KLOPP solution, but not for the CLH solution. Also, we suggest a RN-like stringy dyonic black hole solution, which comes from the KLOPP solution under a dual transformation, and its thermodynamical properties are the same as the KLOPP solution

    Quarkonium Production Studies in CMS

When the LHC starts its operation, CMS will have a unique opportunity to study q uarkonium production in pp collisions and later in PbPb collisions. Here we report on the methods and plans for measuring the differential pT Jpsi->mu+mu- production cross section, using data to be collected in the first LHC run by the CMS detector. Furthermore we discuss the performance of the CMS detector for quarkonium measurements in PbPb collisions.Comment: Presented at the 34th International Conference on High Energy Physic

X-shooter search for outgassing from Main Belt Comet P/2012 T1 (Pan-STARRS)

    Get PDF
Context. Main Belt Comets are a recently identified population of minor bodies with stable asteroid-like orbits but cometary appearances. Sublimation of water ice is the most likely mechanism for their recurrent activity (i.e. dust tails and dust comae), although there has been no direct detection of gas. These peculiar objects could hold the key to the origin of water on Earth. Aims. In this paper we present a search for the gas responsible for lifting dust from P/2012 T1 (Pan-STARRS), and review previous attempts at such measurements. To date such searches have mainly been indirect, looking for the common cometary gas CN rather than gasses related to water itself. Methods. We use the VLT and X-shooter to search for emission from OH in the UV, a direct dissociation product of water. Results. We do not detect any emission lines, and place an upper limit on water production rate from P/2012 T1 of 8 − 9 × 1025 molecules s−1. This is similar to limits derived from observations using the Herschel space telescope. Conclusions. We conclude that the best current facilities are incapable of detecting water emission at the exceptionally low levels required to produce the observed activity in Main Belt Comets

Optically actuated two position mechanical mover

    Get PDF
An optically actuated mechanical mover adapted to be moved from an ambient position to an active position, is disclosed. The mechanical mover essentially comprises a piston/cylinder arrangement including a piston that is contained within an internal cylindrical chamber of a housing. The cylindrical chamber is configured to permit the piston to be moved for the length of the chamber as a work stroke. A lock pin extending through the piston, and diametrically opposed walls of the chamber housing, retain the piston in the ambient position at one end of the chamber. An actuator for producing a pressure or shock wave that drives the piston is positioned at the end of the chamber corresponding to the piston ambient position

    Laser-actuated mechanical device

Actuator is portable and can be used in high-temperature (over 500 C) environments by incorporating tungsten metal film and quartz window. Actuator can be triggered when it is not directly in laser beam path by utilizing fiber optics. It is advantageous for remotely switching ultra-high voltage systems

Energy Distribution in 2d Stringy Black Hole Backgrounds

    Get PDF
We utilize Moller's and Einstein's energy-momentum complexes in order to explicitly evaluate the energy distributions associated with the two-dimensional "Schwarzschild" and "Reissner-Nordstrom" black hole backgrounds. While Moller's prescription provides meaningful physical results, Einstein's prescription fails to do so in the aforementioned gravitational backgrounds. These results hold for all two-dimensional static black hole geometries. The results obtained within this context are exploited in order Seifert's hypothesis to be investigated.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX, v2: acknowledgements added, to appear in Int.J.Mod.Phys.

Many-particle theory of nuclear systems with application to neutron star matter

    Get PDF
The research is reported concerning energy-density relation for the normal state of neutron star matter, and the effects of superfluidity and polarization on neutron star matter. Considering constraints on variation, and the theory of quantum fluids, three methods for calculating the energy-density range are presented. The effects of polarization on neutron star structure, and polarization effects on condensation and superfluid-state energy are discussed

Coulomb Oscillations of Indium-doped ZnO Nanowire Transistors in a Magnetic Field

We report on the observation of Coulomb oscillations from localized quantum dots superimposed on the normal hopping current in ZnO nanowire transistors. The Coulomb oscillations can be resolved up to 20 K. Positive anisotropic magnetoresistance has been observed due to the Lorentz force on the carrier motion. Magnetic field-induced tunneling barrier transparency results in an increase of oscillation amplitude with increasing magnetic field. The energy shift as a function of magnetic field indicates electron wavefunction modification in the quantum dots.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figure

Fragmentation or Recombination at High p_T?

All hadronization processes, including fragmentation, are shown to proceed through recombination. The shower partons in a jet turn out to play an important role in describing the p_T spectra of hadrons produced in heavy-ion collisions. Due to the recombination of the shower partons with the soft thermal partons, the structure of jets produced in AA collisions is not the same as that of jets produced in pp collisions.Comment: Talk given at Quark Matter 200
